TIMELY WARNING UPDATE RE INCIDENT ON HOPE STREET
This communication provides an update to the timely warning notice sent earlier today, December 12, 2025, regarding an incident that occurred on Hope Street in the area of Power Street.
Following further investigation and coordination with the Providence Police Department (PPD), the Brown University Public Safety & Emergency Management has been able to confirm the identity of the individual who detained a member of the Brown community earlier today. It was a fugitive task force officer who mistakenly identified the community member as a suspect they were searching for. The community member involved in the incident has been informed of this development, and the appropriate campus support services continue to be offered to them.
The investigation into the details of the interaction are now being handled by the relevant law enforcement agencies.
