The Brown University Department of Public Safety & Emergency Management provides this notice in compliance with the Timely Notice provision of the Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act.
Incident
On Thursday, May 21, at approximately 9:00 PM, two community members notified the Brown University Department of Public Safety & Emergency Management of a Breaking and Entering into their dorm rooms in Chen Family Hall. In both instances, the students’ dorm rooms were unoccupied and left unlocked. In both cases, electronics and personal items were stolen. This matter is under investigation by the Brown University Department of Public Safety & Emergency Management. Anyone with information about this crime is asked to contact the Brown University Department of Public Safety & Emergency Management at 401-863-3322.

Safety Tips:
- Lock your doors: Always lock your room door, even if you are only stepping out for a few minutes.
- Secure Valuables: Keep expensive electronics (laptops, tablets, gaming consoles) out of plain sight from windows or open doors.
- See Something, Say Something: Report any individuals wearing masks or acting suspiciously in residential areas to 401-863-3322 or dial 911.
- Do Not Tailgate: Ensure that exterior building doors close and latch behind you. Do not allow unknown individuals to follow you into the building.
- Do not prop doors: Ensure that exterior building doors close and latch behind you to prevent unauthorized access.
